Vent Free Heater Information All Manuals below are PDF
We cannot emphasize enough the importance of sizing a vent free heater. Some people think the bigger the better, even in a small space.
You need to realize that putting a 30,000 BTU (up to 1000
square feet) heater in a 300 sq ft area will mean that the heater
will shut down & cause nuisance outages. All indoor vent free units
are fitted with an Oxygen Depletion Sensor (ODS). When the sensor detects a lack of oxygen the unit switches off.
It is a real mistake to think it will heat up
the room quicker, or that bigger is better. It is of paramount
importance that you size your new heater according to the space you
wish to heat, bigger is not always better.
- 10,000 BTU covers up to 300 square foot area
- 20,000 BTU covers 300-600 square foot area
- 30,000 BTU covers 600-1000 square foot area
This is a question we get asked all the time. The only thing we can tell you
is that it is against their local code laws. There are various other
States who have some restrictions too. Even local Cities have their
own laws. You should your check local codes.
www.ventfree.org has a USA map showing where restrictions apply.
You can download it from their technical codes and standards page.
We recommend that you have a professional install your unit. It is
important the recommended clearances are observed. If you are
getting a Propane heater you will need a 100 lb tank installed.
We do not recommend a tank smaller than 100 lbs. If these units are
connected to smaller tanks you will experience freezing of the gas
valve and the heater will shut down, through lack of gas flow.
See the chart below for running times for the
various sized units.
Providing the unit is properly installed the units are safe.
You will get some condensation. However,
cracking open a window for a short while should be sufficient to
reduce it.
A Vent free gas unit does not put off anymore
carbon monoxide than a gas stove in the kitchen puts off.
It burns 99% of its fuel & the other 1% moisture.
The garage vent free heaters are referred to as an outdoor unit
which require good ventilation. They are not to be used indoors. in a
tent or an RV. They have a metal shield on them to protect them from
debris hitting the open flame.
Pay close attention to the clearances in the
equipment manual which comes with the heaters.
